Description: This 3-day, 23-hour seminar will teach you the skills you need to implement trigger point needling, also known as dry needling of the upper and lower body. The most common trigger points and their associated muscles are covered. To gain solid ability in using dry needling and treating trigger points, the practitioner must have the ability to palpate, locate trigger points, and needle properly. This seminar will cover those core skills necessary to practice dry needling and trigger point acupuncture. In addition to needling, the practitioner will also learn myofascial soft tissue techniques for treating muscular pathologies, taut bands, and trigger points.
The in-person component to this seminar minimizes lecture and focuses on hands-on practice. With that, there will be pre-requisite video on the Fundamentals of trigger points and dry needling. If you are new to this type of needling, there is also a pre-requisite needling skills class on the Thursday before the seminar. See details below.
Objectives:
- Understand the anatomy involved with trigger points and dry needling
- Understand trigger point referrals
- Locate and palpate muscles, bands, and trigger points
- Understand needling principles: Using correct needle size, depths, types and purpose of stimulation, and safety
- Understand needle technique: depth, manipulation, needling safely
- Learn and perform myofascial soft tissue techniques to treat muscle pathology, taut bands, and trigger points
Pre-requisites: Watch the basics of Trigger Point Acupuncture/Dry Needling video
Needling skills class: Top 5 Skills for Safe & Effective Orthopedic Needling & Obtaining the Twitch Response
If you are unfamiliar with Orthopedic needling and have not needled trigger points, this 4-hour class is required. If you have needled trigger points before, and/or have experience with Orthopedic needling, this class is highly recommended but optional. Attending this 1/2 day class will help you get more out of the Trigger Point Dry Needling seminar.
This 4-hour class will enhance your needling skills, allowing you to provide more effective and comfortable needling. Needling skills are important for safety and to obtain optimal results.
Instructors for pre-requisite class: Moses Alvarez, L.Ac. and Darren O’Rourke, L.Ac.
