Foundations of LumboPelvic Dry Needling & Pelvic Floor Acupuncture

This is the foundations class that is a pre-requisite to the Advanced Pelvic Floor Acupuncture seminar

Pelvic Floor dysfunctions encompass a number of recalcitrant, difficult to treat and debilitating painful and neurological conditions for which there are few options for treatment in the current, mainstream medical system. Pelvic floor disorders are crippling to many patients, stressing marriages and relationships, affecting sexual and urogenital function, and significantly reducing the quality of the patient’s life. While Acupuncture is one of the few treatments out there that can truly help resolve pelvic floor pain and dysfunction, there are very few acupuncturists that specialize in treating pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Jamie Hampton, DAOM, L.Ac. is changing that by offering this seminar. Dr. Hampton has specialized in treating pelvic floor for 15 years and draws on her experience to give you a dynamic, clinically focused class.

The pelvis is the attachment site of some 36 muscles. Understanding these structures and their relation to the pelvis is key. We start the seminar with the larger muscles that can affect the function of the pelvis and the pelvic floor, and can cause pain into the pelvis and pelvic floor via trigger point referrals. We then go into the nerves, ligaments, and the pelvic floor itself, covering needling of the pelvic diaphragm/levator ani, common urogenitary and pelvic floor disorders of men and women, and treatment strategies. Of course, this seminar includes guided hands-on practice of needling.

Other crucial aspects of treating pelvic floor patients are covered in this seminar, including treatment room and patient management skills such as draping, informed consent, communication, ethics, patient interaction and treatment room etiquette, and so on. This is the important training you get on the actual practice of pelvic floor acupuncture, something only available from Jamie Hampton, DAOM and her 15 years of specializing in treating pelvic floor patients.

Attendees of Jamie’s classes also get access to her private community, where they can ask question and receive guidance on helping pelvic floor patients.

Course objectives:

  • Review trigger points, pain, peripheral and central sensitization, pain referrals
  • Review and learn the specific muscles of the lumbo-pelvic region: Iliopsoas, QL, Multifidi, etc. (see list below)
  • Review anatomy of the pelvis including bone, ligaments, plexi
  • Learn the anatomy and function of the pelvic diaphragm, levator ani, and perineum
  • Understand common pelvic floor complaints, pain, and disorders due to trigger points, pelvic and pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Learn treatment strategies, needling techniques, and electro-acupuncture for pelvic floor disorders
  • Understand proper treatment room etiquette and ethics when treating pelvic floor patients

About Jamie Hampton, L.Ac.:

Dr. Jamie Hampton is a doctoral graduate of The American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the oldest TCM school in the US. She has worked in leading San Francisco Bay Area hospitals for the last 18 years with an emphasis on true integration and collaboration within fast paced clinical settings including the ICU. While she was an adjunct professor through University of California, San Francisco she also had the privilege of teaching grand rounds to medical students. This experience blossomed into a faculty position at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medical College in Berkeley, CA where she taught advanced needling technique, gynecology and advanced formula writing. This solidified her love of teaching and connecting with her students, conveying the power of TCM and all its abilities. She was also co-founder of Golden Leaf Acupuncture in Berkeley, CA which was University California Berkeley’s leading provider for students as well as faculty and staff. Having discovered a total lack of treatment options for pelvic floor pain (including acupuncture) Dr. Hampton made it her mission to specialize in helping these patients. She has treated pelvic floor patients since 2009.

Currently Dr. Hampton practices in Berkley, CA  specializing in pelvic floor dysfunction and complex orthopedic cases.
