Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that involves inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes. The plantar fascia plays a crucial role in supporting the arch of your foot and absorbing shock when you walk.
Symptoms of plantar fasciitis typically include:
- Pain: The most common symptom is sharp pain, usually felt near the heel. The pain may be more pronounced in the morning when you take your first steps or after prolonged periods of rest. It can also be aggravated by long periods of standing or walking.
- Stiffness: Many people with plantar fasciitis experience stiffness and discomfort in the foot, especially after sitting for a while or when getting up in the morning.
- Tenderness: The bottom of the foot, especially the heel, may be tender to the touch.
- Swelling: In some cases, there may be mild swelling in the heel area.
- Discomfort after exercise: The pain may worsen after activities that involve prolonged standing or walking, as well as after intense physical activities.
Current treatments vary in their degree of efficacy and may include rest, NSAIDS, stretching, ice, orthotics, and in more severe cases or if conservative measures are not effective, may include corticosteroid injections, night splints, or surgery. However, acupuncture and associated modalities can offer exceptional results for plantar fasciitis. In this webinar, you will learn the anatomy, role of inflammation, taking a history and assessing plantar fasciitis, and treatments including electroacupuncture, motor points, gut sha, manual techniques, and the role of laser therapy are all covered in detail.
